On this timber-framed house the brick infill panels were carefully taken out so that decayed timbers could be replaced. The original bricks were cleaned and set aside for reuse, keeping the character of the building, before the panels were rebuilt in lime mortar around the new timbers.
Salvaging and reusing the original bricks means the repaired panels match the rest of the house, and lime mortar keeps the panels breathable and kind to the surrounding oak.
