This cottage had been covered in cement render, which was cracking and coming away. Once it was stripped off, the original flint and brick walls underneath were revealed, repaired and made good in lime.
Cement render on old walls traps moisture and hides problems. Removing it lets the walls dry out and often uncovers original masonry worth keeping on show.
